
The Shipai Campus of South China Normal University (SCNU), located in Tianhe District, Guangzhou, serves as the university's main campus and the administrative hub and core teaching and research base of the institution. With a long history and rich cultural heritage, the campus hosts multiple national key disciplines and provincial-level key laboratories, accommodating tens of thousands of faculty and students for teaching, research, and daily living functions. As the university continues to develop, the need for functional upgrades and facility renovations in existing campus buildings has become increasingly urgent.
This project focuses on systematic renovation and upgrading of multiple teaching buildings, laboratory buildings, and student dormitories across the Shipai Campus. The work involves comprehensive renewal and expansion of electromechanical systems including fire protection, HVAC, water supply and drainage, and power supply, aiming to eliminate safety hazards in aging facilities and enhance comfort and operational safety of campus buildings.
As densely occupied public educational buildings, seismic safety is of paramount importance in this renovation. The project fully implements an electromechanical seismic bracing system, whose core function is to scientifically transfer seismic horizontal forces to the main building structure, ensuring that pipelines and equipment remain stable during earthquakes. In strict compliance with the Code for Seismic Design of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in Buildings (GB 50981-2014), seismic supports have been comprehensively installed on critical components including fire protection pipelines, smoke exhaust ducts, and equipment rooms across the campus.
The introduction of seismic bracing provides multiple layers of safety protection for the campus: first, it ensures the normal operation of fire alarm and emergency lighting systems after an earthquake, buying valuable time for the evacuation of faculty and students; second, it effectively prevents secondary disasters caused by falling pipelines; and third, it safeguards precision instruments in laboratories and data center equipment, ensuring the continuity of core teaching and research functions. The seismic bracing system has become an indispensable safety foundation for the Shipai Campus Project at South China Normal University.
